United States Map Picture. The second half of the 18th century saw marked transitions in American mapmaking - stimulated initially by the requirements of the British colonial administration and sophisticated by those of the permit government. First, there was a shift of stress from delineating external boundaries to documenting internal geographic, cultural and diplomatic detail. In a second development, the job of United States Map Picture was taken over by professionals who introduced the ideal of a methodical regional survey conducted to uniform standards.
Prior to United States Map Picture provided deserted the sketchiest view of the Massachusetts interior. every this misrepresented afterward the make public of William Douglass' seminal "Plan of the British dominions of extra England in North America" (ca. 1753). Based upon native surveys, the plan was a staggering advance over earlier United States Map Picture of the region.

"Plan of the British dominions" is in addition to the first to map proficiently Massachusetts' external borders. In particular, he depicted the 1740 solution of a long-running boundary argument between Massachusetts and extra Hampshire. This resulted in the boundary physical set at three miles north of the Merrimack River as far afield as Pawtucket Falls, from which reduction it ran directly west. United States Map Picture
